If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music. ~Gustav Mahler
The Farmville Central Marching Jaguars have a rich tradition of success throughout the programs' history. The band has performed in such venues as the Super Bowl and several college bowl game parades and competitions throughout the late 80's and early 90's. As recently as 1995, the Marching Jaguars enrollment was at 120 people. this past season the Marching Jaguars only had 36 in the band. This low number was due to a decrease in band participation from 1996 through 2002. In 2002 there were only thirteen students enrolled in sixth grade band. For the upcoming school year there are currently 55 enrolled for sixth grade. This band program is on its way up!
Last season had the lowest enrollment in many years for this band program, however, was probably the most successful band season in at least ten years. We participated in six marching band competitions winning a total of thirty-nine trophies. Thirty-four of those trophies were first place, only five were second place. Our percussion section and drum major went undefeated last season. The band placed first in music for the first time in many years and earned three superior ratings. They were the Grand Champions of class I A and II A at the Greenville Rose Band Classic in 2004. This was the first Grand Champion for the band program since 1994.
This year the band has grown to fifty students and will look to build on the outstanding accomplishments achieved last season and keep the band moving forward as we continue to grow throughout the years.
